Brittany Powell Collaboration/Floyd's 50th Birthday

Brittany Powell (of N.F.T.S.A.C. and "My Girlfriend" fame) and I collaborated on a box design for Floyd Sklaver's 50th birthday.  The box was commissioned by good friend Marc Acito. Full artistic direction (and a very loose set of guidelines) was given to Brittany, so we decided that rather than buy a box, I would plane, mitre, and smooth out some wood to make a 13 "x 10" x 5" box.  After a clear coat of sealer was applied to the box, I took some high # sand paper and gave Brittany the box. She cut and applied contact paper (as is one of her installation mediums) in a "Pasta" theme (Floyd likes pasta). I took the box to the finishing studio and we sprayed a "medium" (as opposed to "dark" or "burnt") stain over the contact paper, creating a stencil-like application. After removing the contact paper from the box we applied 2 more coats of clear varnish. After a good 24 hours of really awesome off-gassing, the box was used to hold "Floy-kus" (wait for the urban dictionary definition) at his fantastic birthday get-together.

Here are some photos of the box:
